LAS VEGAS, NV, UNITED STATES, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Centro Legal Hispano de Las Vegas offers its Drive Smart, Live Safe Scholarship to incoming and current college students who are already thinking critically about the best ways they can curb drinking and driving in their communities. This year, the scholarship’s $2,500 goes to Macy Thompson at American University Washington College of Law.

Thompson is a 3L preparing for graduation and the bar exam. She’s spent her academic career studying criminal and constitutional law and hopes to work as a federal prosecutor after she graduates. In particular, she hopes to use her experience to prosecute organized crime.

Thompson found herself drawn to the Drive Smart, Live Safe Scholarship because of tragic personal experiences. She lost her best friend as a result of an accident with an intoxicated driver. That loss led her to understand how devastating intoxicated driving can be and the grief that friends and families are left with after such accidents.

She notes that applying for the Drive Smart, Live Safe Scholarship gave her the opportunity to honor her friend’s memory while “advocating for greater awareness and prevention efforts” in the fight to reduce intoxicated driving accidents.

As Thompson prepares for her final year of law school and the bar exam, she also works as an Articles Editor for the Administrative Law Review, as well as the Digital Editor for American University Washington College of Law’s Human Rights Brief.

She has previously held internship positions with the Reynoldsburg City Attorney’s Office and International Rights Advocates. She will intern with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia during the summer of 2026.

The Las Vegas attorneys with Centro Legal Hispano de Las Vegas grieve the loss of Thompson’s friend with her and recognize the careful thought Thompson has since put into the strategies that may curb intoxicated driving accidents. The firm hopes that her $2,500 in winnings will make it easier for her to look toward her future as a prosecutor as she completes her final
